Mechanics of Demonology GP Haggart 9780557411399 Books Reviews
In Ghost Hunting, you must be schooled on anything paranormal/demonic. This book is very informing on the mechanics of Demonology, love it.
This review was originally a few sentences that described how terrible and poorly written this book is. It is obviously a self published work that has had no true editing or layout work done to it whatsoever. If you can see past the run on sentences and horrible structure of the writing itself you may be able to realize that this guy is a hack. This is by far the single worst representation of the subject of demonology I have ever read. I for one am a christian (I have to put that there because the author will say otherwise) and therefore feel like I am not at all biased when I say that this book is a joke. It is obvious that he knows next to nothing about true demonology and is simply presenting a number of, what I assume to be, lectures by his superiors in the, well whatever he is involved with religiously. Save your money on this one. If you have already purchased it will allow you to return a product within 30 days.
One more thing you should be aware of when returning this book or leaving a negative review, you will be attacked by the author and his cronies. Just read their comments about my original review. In true narcissistic fashion, the author takes all criticism of his work to be an absolute all out declaration of war. His friends will immediately begin to attack you personally and defend his character to the extreme even though his character is not subject to review. To add insult to narcissistic injury, Hagart then goes on a page after page rant of how someone who dis not like his writing style is a narcissist. After cutting and pasting everything he could fine on the subject of narcissism he goes on the offensive trying to scientifically prove that anyone who disagrees with him is merely trying to harm him personally for their own satisfaction. Could a person be more self absorbed. Haggart himself is a narcissist and proves it with his behavior. Reference here and elsewhere [...] I would enjoy debating this man in a very, very public forum. Name the time and place. Also look into his ministry background and see what type of organization he is a pastor in.
Before condemning this book, allow me to share what experience I have which gives me an authoritative voice in doing so I am a member of the clergy in Wisconsin, a youth pastor, and have achieved a BA in Christian Ministry with an Emphasis on Youth from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL. During my tenure at TIU, my other focuses were Demonology and Old Testament. In pursuit of knowledge and education in demonology I read many materials on the subject and wrote my Bachelor's thesis on it, entitled "Congruencies and Incongruencies Between Demonology in Media and in Contemporary Christianity" for which I won the Senior Seminar Scholarship Award for excellence in the field of ministry research. I have 5.5 years of Christian college education and 8 years of private occult research under my belt. I have continued my education and begun gathering resources for an additional work on cross-cultural demonology and found this book on and it was very highly rated.
Of course, the reason for that is personal friends writing sycophantic reviews for the author. This book is very poorly written and very poorly researched, ESPECIALLY for a doctoral candidate. Not only do I question the quality of the author's education but the integrity of any organization which has supported that education. The text is RIFE with misspellings, inconsistent capitalization scheme, and a lack of logical coherence. As for spelling, in one sub-chapter alone, Mendes Goat is spelled Mendes Goat, Mendez Goat, and mends goat [sic]. Logical incoherence is rampant as well. For example, sentences like "Believed to be a false sigil, the Necronomicon gate is a false sigil...". Is it a false sigil or is it simply believed to be one? There are also SEVERAL sentences throughout the book with statements such as "scholars believe" or "believed by historians" but Mr. Haggart does not feel the need to inform us of WHICH scholars or WHICH historians. I don't know about your college but I never saw a student make it through a single writing class where that was acceptable. All professors returned material to those students with phrases like "which scholars?" and "what historians?"
Okay, so it's full of unsound spelling and grammar and logical inconsistencies. Forgiveable if the book bears fruit. It doesn't. Beyond those atrocities listed above the book is full of wild speculation which Mr. Haggart neither denotes as "theory" nor backs up with any evidence. His chapter on blood is a good example in which he avers that the oxygen in blood is the breath (pneuma) of a person and thereby part of their spirit and so when blood is spilled spirit is spilled and that causes a haunting. This is an interesting theory but he does not connect this theory to any other body of work or research, whether philosophical, metaphysical, or hard science, nor is he able to equip the reader with any Biblical evidence to suggest this. Additional wild speculation includes accusing the creator of the biohazard symbol of being a Wiccan neo-pagan who attempted to incorporate the symbol for the Lunar Triple Goddess into modern medicine. A simple Wikipedia search can supply the information that the biohazard symbol was created in 1966 by Charles Baldwin for DOW Chemical as a symbol which he wanted to be, "memorable but meaningless so that he could educate people what it means."
But, Youth Pastor in Wisconsin, why would you go to Wikipedia to source something like that when it could be inaccurate? Well, I do it because Mr. Haggart does as well. In his "Bibliography" which mostly reads as an inflated personal resume of "look at me, look at me, I'm a demonologist" he references both Wikipedia and a Geocities website as resources. These are not scholarly resources, Mr. Haggart, these are Jr. High term paper resources.
But is the information inside the book at least helpful and well done? No. The book reads like the Wikipedia article it is glommed from and the low-resolution and blurry images are clearly stolen from similar sites. It is a poor-man's almanac of entry-level demonology which even the most amateur and inexperienced demonologist will find juvenile.
If 0 stars were possible, I would've given 0 stars. DO NOT BUY.
I didn't get this so I could become the next Lorraine and Warren. I got this because demonology is so interesting to me and being in the paranormal field, it is the one thing I have never come across so far, or if I had, I brushed it off as the spirit of someone that was pissed off that we were there, rather than outright evil. However, I was hungry for knowledge that could help us to identify what exactly we were dealing with. It's logical that eventually we are going to find ourselves in one of those situations and we need to be prepared for when that happens. This book also helps the reader to identify when an individual is just pulling the wool over your eyes. There are things that you can do or say that will provoke a response, things that a typical person pulling a hoax would not recognize or respond to. I found the reading easy and book interesting enough that I didn't want to put it down, though I may have skipped a couple of chapters to get to the good stuff. Lots of information. It is a little pricey though for what you get.
This is an evident self published book written by an ignorant and hateful man. Not only are there many grammatical errors, Mr. Haggart has passed on ignorant information and personal bias as fact. A horrible, horrible read.
G.p Haggart, I have all his demonology books, may I say this is by far my fav. For someone looking for help and guidance in this field, all the info and warnings are in here. Everything he states correlates with the truths I myself have experienced. Excellent book and continues to help me every day.
